2024 New Forest Woodlark Survey

Woodlark image Woodlark © Steve Laycock Hampshire Ornithological Society is organising a survey of Woodlarks in the New Forest during 2024. During surveys carried out in 2014 and 2019, they were found in a total of 150 1km squares. If we can achieve good coverage, we should find 150-200 breeding pairs and it will be fascinating to compare the breeding density and distribution with previous years.

On this website you can request to survey one or more of over 300 1km squares. Please select a group of between 2 and 6 adjacent squares so that isolated squares are not left uncovered. When approved, you will be able to download the survey instructions and maps/recording forms.

To get started, view the county map to see the available survey squares.
